So, you're wondering what this is all about eh...a little about how it came about, and where it's (hopefully) going.  Well first I wanted to launch it today, July 4th because, as we celebrate our nations' independence, I'm celebrating a decision I have recently made.

I have always loved travel, exploring new places, experiencing new cultures, people, and of course, foods!  Having previously seen much of the country, but always from 30,000+ feet up, I wanted to see it at ground level.  So, a "few" years ago, at age 52 I went to CDL School, got my CDL, and "hit the road" as a semi-truck driver.  I wanted the opportunity to see and experience the US from the ground, rather than the air.  As a truck driver, I loved the freedom of being on the open-road, the people one meets along the way, the foods, and everything about it EXCEPT, it was a tough job...especially for just starting at age 52...So, after two years, but mission accomplished, I decided that was enough of that!

Raised in Kokomo IN, I have been fortunate enough to have visited all 48 of the contiguous states & DC, as well as Mexico, Canada, & France...Alaska & Hawaii, you're still on my bucket list :-).  And, with the exception of Maine & Vermont (only once each for them), I have been to the remaining 46 states & DC multiple times.  However, having been "idle" (from traveling) now for the better part of 15 years, virtually no travel, bored, and age 68, I decided to "make a change."

I have been thinking for many years (10+) about "returning to the road," but not as a truck driver this time...that's tought work and I'm retired, not looking for tough work!  I figure God gives us "windows" at times in our life for various opportunities, whether it be a gap-year for college-bound students, an extended vacation between jobs, or the freedom to just take off and do whatever, whenever, these windows often only present once...I have often felt I had this window back in 2016 and missed it as I almost did this then, but...I don't know, will never know, but if so, I guess God is giving me a second opportunity!

So, figuring I'm probably entering the last chapter of my life (perhaps before making a side-stop in assisted living and/or a nursing home, haha), I've decided to seize the opportunity!  I've been out shopping (and spent countless hours researching online) and am planning to buy a Forest River Salem Model 240BHXL.  In case you're interested, you can see a floorplan, pics, and a 360º tour by clicking here.

I'm planning to take Barney & Molly (my two small dogs - you'll see pics of them on here from time-to-time), and "hit the road as a full-time RV'er!  I've set a target to be out there by November 1st, tho I'm realistic enough to know, with all I have to get done between now & then, that date might "slip" a little.  So, I've set a backup date of January 1st...We'll see what happens :-).  So, about this website, what is it, what's it about, and where's it going?

Basically, from now until I "hit the road," I will be posting (hopefully) daily, most likely in the evenings.  I'll be posting a varied assortment of things related to my "mission"...Things I got accomplished that day towards my...kinda like my daily journal.  Perhaps I spent the afternoon on a dealer lot looking at travel trailers, or perhaps researching items online I will need (or need to know), or perhaps, like today, sitting here working on this website :-).  But I'll try and keep you updated as I endeavor on this next chapter of my life!  Then, once I'm on-the-road again, that's when the really good posts (and pics) should start appearing!

From the road I'll be posting pics (pics I've taken, not ones I've found on the internet like the ones I have currently posted here)...pics where I'm staying, pics of the dogs enjoying the outdoors (which I know they're gonna love it), and of course, I'm sure there will be some problems along the way, you know, flat tires, blown fuses, whatever...but hey, it's life, right...so I'll just deal with the problems along the way too (as I did when driving the semi).

My current format plans call for my daily posts to include at minimum location, weather, and the from-to if it was a travel day.  BUT this could change too...it's just going to be very fluid and free-flowing, a place where you'll be able to comment on posts too!  I'm also planning to add a feature where you can subscribe (FREE of course), then you'll be notified by e-mail when there is a new post, etc...New features coming, just takes time.  Also, my daily posts will let you know if there are any changes on this page so you don't have to check periodically.

Anyway, that's about all I have for now...Stay tuned, and feel free to share my link with friends & family...there's an "easy share" link coming soon too!

Stay Safe Out There & Have Fun!

Steve
